The house was where Gabriela and husband Diego began their uprising against the Spaniard functionaries in Ilocos in 1762, with the help of the British forces.
The house, which was continuously occupied by the Cariños until the 1990s, has a unique feature unlike the balay na bato in Vigan City, for example. It has an outer wall where the servants supposedly pass so as not to listen to the conversations of the owners and their guests.

The surname grew popularity and love from the residents of the North as he authored some laws that created the University of Northern Philippines. He is also the one who is behind the establishment of the Social Security System that helped thousands of Filipinos today.
When he was at the St. Paul’s Cathedral one Sunday, Floro was shot in the head by an unidentified gunman that even until today no one can name of. He was survived by his children and wife, Carmeling Crisologo. What can you see in Gabriela Silang Memorial Park? Just a billboard, empty tables and benches for picnics, there's Imelda Park, also with picnic tables (mostly empty), beach nearby, huge trees (probably centuries old or at least heritage ones 50 years or more) and across the highway is Northern Luzon Heroes Hill National Park a marker nearby states (in Filipino): "dating Pideg at ginawang Diego - Gabriela Silang noong 1976. Vigan is strategically located at the delta of Abra River and was the center of political, religious, economic, social and cultural activities in Northern Luzon for more than three centuries. This city became the hotbed of social unrest against colonial abuses. Among those who led the cause for patriotism were the Bigueños Fr. Jose Burgos, the poetess Leona Florentino, her son Isabelo de los Reyes (father of Philippine Labor Unionism) and Elpidio Quirino, the second President of the Republic.
The historic city of Vigan was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 2, 1999.
